Will we be employed next month? Should we look for jobs just in case? Where? Is this an opportunity for my husband to go to college? Will my boss let me work remotely forever? Do we need to buy a second car? Where will our children go to school? How do we keep from jumping from daycare to daycare? What are we going to do? How do we decide?
I alternate between calm enjoyment of our adventure and the kind of panic that feels a giant spoon has been shoved down my throat to stir my insides and all my blood has drained through my big toes. We don't know what we're doing or where we're going, what we should do or where we should go, or even what choices we have. It seems this phase of our recovery is characterized by collecting and eliminating options.
Our own patience is not enough to carry us through this process of discovery. Bosses are growing impatient. Generosity is wearing thin. We are becoming burdensome to others.
